Memory and Forgettery: What’s Normal and What’s Not

In healthy older adults, studies have shown that, as we age, we often develop an increased ability to use our knowledge and experience to form more effective and efficient life strategies – in other words, we continue to build and learn from our experiences.

Yet, how often do we, or our families, worry that we’re becoming “senile”, or that we’re “getting Alzheimers”, because we stumble over our grandchildren’s names or can’t remember where we put our keys?

Some memory loss is natural as we age, and some processes do decline or slow down. However, most of the time, these are normal, gradual processes and are nothing to be concerned about.

This seminar aims to reassure that some memory loss is inevitable.  It also looks at memory loss in general, and discusses how to recognize normal, age-related slowing down of processes versus behaviour which could signify potentially more serious situations.
